• Health Concerns

  • Dyes are pigments that create color in products.Concern: May cause skin sensitivity and irritation, or even oxygen depletion in the blood. Most are made from coal tar and studies show that almost all of them are carcinogenic (cancer causing).
  • Harmful PhthalatesConcern: Some studies have shown that children who are exposed to high levels of harmful phthalates may experience developmental delays or reproductive problems. There is also concern that long-term exposure to some types of phthalates could cause cancer.
  • Parabens are a group of chemicals widely used as preservatives.Concern: May alter hormone levels, increase the risk for certain types of cancer, impaired fertility, or may alter the development of a fetus or young child. Can cause skin irritation, rash or allergic skin reaction. Studies have found parabens in breast tumors.
  • Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) is a foaming agent.Concern: Studies indicate that SLS penetrates into the eyes, brain, heart, liver and other organs, showed long-term retention in the tissues. The studies also indicate that SLS penetrated young children’s eyes and prevented them from developing properly and caused cataracts to develop in adults. It also dries the skin by stripping the protective lipids from the surface so it can not effectively regulate moisture.
